Media Accreditation

Accredited media representatives may receive a day ticket to attend RIPE Meetings in order to cover sessions of interest, subject to approval.

This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for granting media accreditation to journalists and media representatives for RIPE Meetings. It aims to facilitate media coverage of RIPE Meetings while protecting the privacy of attendees.

Eligibility Criteria for Media Accreditation

Media accreditation is open to:

  • Journalists from recognised print, broadcast, and online media outlets.
  • Freelance journalists with proof of recent publications in recognised media outlets.
  • Representatives of industry publications, news agencies, blogs, and relevant online media platforms.
  • Media representatives producing coverage related to Internet infrastructure, policy, and governance.
  • Freelance content creators such as influencers, bloggers, YouTubers or podcasters who can show:
    • Proof of recent work with a media outlet.
    • Proof of assignment by a media outlet.
    • Proof of covering RIPE Meetings or other RIR or I* organisation events in the past.
    • Proof of pre-coverage for the upcoming RIPE Meeting you are applying for.

Accreditation will not be granted to:

  • Individuals without editorial responsibilities (i.e., marketing or advertising personnel).
  • Social media influencers, bloggers, or podcasters without verifiable media credentials or proof of recent work or coverage as shared above.
  • Non-journalistic staff from media outlets (e.g., PR representatives or sales personnel).
  • Individuals whose primary purpose at the RIPE Meeting is not related to covering the event for their respective media outlet.

Application Process

To apply for media accreditation, you must provide the following documentation:

  • A valid press card or editorial assignment letter from a recognised media outlet.

  • If freelance, a letter from the assigning editor or proof of recent assignments in the field of Internet technology, policy, or related subjects.
  • An overview of the sessions you would like to cover and/or topics of interest.

Conditions of Accreditation

Accredited media representatives are expected to:

  • Abide by the RIPE Code of Conduct and respect the privacy and confidentiality of meeting participants.
  • Use the press pass solely for media-related activities.
  • Not disrupt any sessions, meetings, or workshops during the event.
  • Obtain explicit permission from speakers or participants before publishing private conversations, interviews, or photographs.
  • Use professional discretion when reporting on potentially sensitive or proprietary discussions.
  • Report to the event registration desk to receive their Press badge.
  • Wear a press badge at all times and identify themselves as such when speaking to each attendee.

Revocation of Accreditation

The RIPE NCC reserves the right to revoke media accreditation at any time if:

  • The media representative violates the Code of Conduct or any conditions outlined in this policy.
  • The individual engages in behaviour that is disruptive to the event or the participants.
  • Media representatives fail to meet journalistic standards or use their access for non-editorial purposes.
  • Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action from the Code of Conduct team.
